Macroom based O’Flynn Medical have recently donated breast pumps to the Health Services in Cork North Lee.

The donation coincided with the recent HSE National Breastfeeding Week, with theme of ‘Supporting you from bump to baby and beyond.’

Ireland continues to face challenges in increasing its breastfeeding rates, but progress is being made. Recently, the HSE has published the Breastfeeding Action Plan Progress Report for 2016 to 2023. Key highlights include almost a fourfold increase in the number of dedicated infant feeding specialists, growing from 15 to 59 since 2017, as well as an 18.6% increase in the percentage of babies breastfed at their 3-month developmental check-up since 2015. Additionally, the HSE has answered nearly 22,000 queries through its online breastfeeding support service since 2016.
“We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that these pumps can have, and we’re thrilled to offer local mothers that same support during such an important time,” said Deirdre O’Flynn, General Manager at O’Flynn Medical. “Partnering with the Cork North Lee Health Services is particularly meaningful for us as it allows us to give back to our own community and help families in our own locality.”
O’Flynn Medical remains committed to supporting breastfeeding mothers, offering vital products such as medical-grade breast pumps which empower women to overcome challenges and continue providing their babies with breast milk – nature’s most complete food.
While breastfeeding provides numerous benefits, many Irish mothers still face significant challenges. Hugely common issues such as latching difficulties, pain and the pressure of balancing work and family life often result in early weaning or the introduction of formula.
The HSE’s new National Infant Feeding Education programme for staff marks another positive step forward in providing the necessary education and support to families across the country.
O’Flynn Medical encourages all mothers to take advantage of the resources and support available to them. Whether you’re a first-time mum or a breastfeeding veteran, the team at O’Flynn Medical is here to help make your breastfeeding journey as smooth and rewarding as possible.
